About Martin

Martin has been a social worker for close to twenty years, but his work supporting people and communities began long before that. While still at school, he worked with his local council to start an award-winning youth program tackling isolation and homophobia in rural and regional towns. It later grew into a statewide program.

His social work career began in housing and homelessness, where he spent close to eight years helping people sleeping rough to access resources and find housing. He then moved into education, inspiring the next generation of youth and community workers to make a difference for their clients without burning out along the way.

Alongside his teaching, Martin volunteered with the Victorian AIDS Council, providing sex education and support in sex-on-premises venues across Melbourne. He went on to study sexual and reproductive health at The University of Sydney, which opened up the world of psychosexual counselling.

Much of his work has been supporting people to gently unpack their beliefs about sex, working through imposed notions of shame and embarrassment, and coming to understand themselves and their bodies in more supportive and healthy ways.

At the heart of his practice is a belief that, with the right support, we can build empowered and healthy lives for ourselves and with the people around us: lives that are loving, holding, supportive, fun, playful and enjoyable to be in.

Outside the counselling room, Martin shares his life with his partner of eleven years. He loves tending to his balcony garden, training gently at the gym, playing board games with his dad, and writing music that he shares with friends and family.
